& ALL Can you hear that? Yup, I reckon Satan Claus has fire up the old sleigh and he’s getting it tuned for his annual run over the whole world to drop off shit for the brats… I hope you’ve been good all year so you can wake up to an electronic nitrous kit in your stocking. Hell, maybe our new rep Gerrie will even get the turbo he’s been waiting for. All that aside, there’s still about a month to go, but for me personally I’m not looking forward to a visit from a hairy sweaty overweight man with no dress sense who likes kids, I’m looking forward to our North vs. South finals that will be held at Wesbank Raceway on the 11 December. It’s gonna be the richest drag race meeting in the history of SA racing. There a grand total of R100 000-00 prize money up for grabs, included in that are a couple of heads up races in certain classes where the winner will walk away with R10 000-00. The event is costing half a Bar to organise, so best you diarise the date and make sure you get there. It’s brought to you by Speed & Sound, Yokohama and Castrol. A whopping R60 000-00 is being spent on trophies and they’ve been sponsored courtesy of my china Mo at Autostyle. Onto the issue 50 (yes, the magical half century edition already)… On my side of the mag we have some wicked fast cars for you to drool over. Cobras are wicked and there are loads out there, but I think we found the only turbo’d one in SA. Yup. You read right, in these pages you can find a V8 Turbo Cobra! Clean boxer Corollas are in demand these days, mainly thanks to guys like Schalk Hartzenburg who show off with their high horsepower versions. If you had one you’d want it to run like Schalk’s, which is why the blue one in this issue was taken to him for a mild 300kw transplant, it’s old school and wicked fast, low elevens fast! The fastest car in issue 50 is Slick GP, a 325iS turbo owned by Rainbow shareholder Nico van Rensburg and built and raced by Sybie Coetzee. It’s stock looking, not lightened in any way and still has 6x9’s on the rear parcel shelf, but runs in the lower ten-second bracket on the 400m! From Durb’s Wally hooked us up a shoot on KZN race legend’s Mk1 Escort with a potent nitrous fed V8 under the hood, it recently broke into the tens too. The cover car is wicked cool, it’s owner by a Kempton Park businessman, Fred Hardy. He liked the pink S2000 in that movie and decided he wanted one, ok, he did it right though when he copied the car in every single way, except his is black, a good call if you ask me. Full kit, carbon fibre, Lambo doors, ICE and a powerful supercharged motor make this the hottest S2000 on our soil. You might have seen this car in other mags before, but you know the saying… save the best till last… On the tech front we show you the installation of a high rev kit in Batty’s CRX as well as the building of a proper inter cooler courtesy of MRP. There’s actually lots of other stuff too believe it or not. Enjoy issue 50…KING KRUTCH |
