Tattoo’d Scooby with a serious workover!
November 25, 2008 by Krutch · 6 Comments
Subarus are cool, there’s just no denying that. After seeing Edward’s Scooby at NXGen a while back where it was awaiting a few tweaks, it piqued my interest. Then I saw it at a dyno day, this tribal tattoo’d Scooby pumped out over 300kW on all four wheels. So it looks great and can kick ass! I went through to the shoot with The Bat, Darryl and Andy. Bat worked his magic with the camera, Darryl took care of the lighting and Andy and myself interrogated the owner to see exactly what the Subaru is all about. It’s been done right, and the list of parts would bankrupt a small country. If these Japanese four wheel drive cars are your cuppa tea, best you get the next issue of SnS in your grubby paws!
The Ferodo Polo - A perfect company demo car.
November 24, 2008 by Krutch · 8 Comments
Myself, Andy, Darryl and The Bat kicked through to Big Boss Auto to do the shoot on Federal Mogul’s demo car. What a cool car! Interior done to suit anyone’s taste, under the hood there’s a serious motor swap with all the best bits inside. All four corners are not only kitted with great wheels and tyres, but a full Koni suspension setup to make it a track day special. Oh, and it sounds simply beautiful. It must be something to do with the 298-degree cams and high compression ratio… While the Bat snapped away and Darryl lit up his life, myself and Andy were scheming on how to get a set of DS Performance discs and pads off the owner for our Foci. After all, his company does do a whole host of products like Champion Race plugs and DS Performance discs and pads (among other things). We dropped some hints, but alas, no go. Maybe after the feature hey Andy?
ICE’d Jetta… With an added bonus.
November 24, 2008 by Krutch · 18 Comments
Ok, so while this is filed under the “On Location” section of the site, none of the SnS staff were actually there. Sean Blignaut from JL Audio however, was. He supplied us with a great shoot on this ICE’d Jetta, and for extra measure he added in a few pics of a model friend of his, Alicia. She’s the same girl that was at the shoot for the DLS Honda Civic Type-R a few months back. I’m sure you’ll agree that she compliments the feature well. It’s none of that pommy mag blatant in your face sexist crap. We’re hoping Sean will supply us some more shoots with Alicia in, and I’m sure you’d all say the same thing. Let’s hope Schizo agrees, cross your fingers. Oh, and Alicia is looking to get big into modelling, so keep that in mind. We can put you in contact with her agent, psycho wally’s need not try contact her though, you’ll be weeded out anyway.
Sport Compact - The finals!
November 24, 2008 by Krutch · Leave a Comment
So after an early start to the day, I headed on through to Tarlton to see this much anticipated day. It promised to be good, the biggest and best would be on hand to battle for final points to see who the class winners are for 2008. I did notice that the stands weren’t as full as during this round, but I have no doubt in my mind that it was due to it being a rain date event, people already had other plans in place. Apart from the racing, I really wanted to see the heads up race between Nasen Padayachee in his Nascar Opel and Richard Jordaan in his SnS Champ. These guys were both gunning for Louis Lima’s 8.67-second record, so Louis Lima himself lined them up to race. You’ll have to get the next issue for more details though…
Turbo tech - Part 2
November 24, 2008 by Krutch · 3 Comments
Spyke took you through the ins and outs of turbo wheels the other day, now to complete your degree in turbo tech, he brings you the subject of turbo housings. We kicked through to Ivan at Mr. Turbo to get the info for you, at the same time we got to see some weird stuff around his workshop, but that’s a story for another day… We chilled at the workshop for a while listening to what Ivan had to say. Was it interesting? You bet. Actually it was so informative that I’ve decided to sort out a bit of boost for Allanah, only a bolt on kit for now, but at least I know what will work for me. I’m willing to bet that after you read up on the info, you’ll also have some boost additcion starting in the back of your mind…
Supra Tech, part 2…
November 24, 2008 by Krutch · 6 Comments
Following up on the quest to build a monster gazillion horsepower Toyota Supra 2JZ lump, we have the end result so far. The engine was assembled as shown in the previous article
and it was then run in on the highways and byways of Gauteng. The Supra really has been put together right, but Andre and owner Martin admit they still have a few tweaks to carry out on the car before they’re happy with the power output. As it stands, there’s potent horses already, but we could only test the car on a bar boost, not the planned 2.3bar, but for the nitty gritty and the proper specs of the Supra to date, you’ll have to tune in to the next issue and see what Spyke has to say about it. I myself have never been partial to the Toyota Supra, there’s just something about the headlights, tail lights and the shape of the body that doesn’t do it for me. Would I take this car? Try stop me!!!
Corsanostra - SA’s quickest Corsa!
November 24, 2008 by Krutch · 8 Comments
Opel’s older Corsa, the Corsa B, is a wicked little car. Unlike the new namesake, it is a small car that’s affordable and a great platform for a racecar of sorts. Rechard Deane certainly thought so, and his Corsa has been through so many different setups it’s actually mad. From small capacity motors, to engine swaps, to throttles to the current setup, an 1800cc Ecotec turbo lump. He’s been one of the top competitors at Sport Compact and has dished out hidings to some of the big names in the series. You see, this little Corsa is a sneeze away from running in the ten-second time bracket on the quarter mile, yet it’s still 100% streetable. No really, just ask his kids how they get to school some mornings! This is an Opel feature you don’t wanna miss out on.
Cult Car Of The Month - Fiat Uno Turbo
November 24, 2008 by Krutch · 7 Comments
The Fiat Uno Turbo really is a true cult car with serious followers all over the country. Following from last month’s hot hatch special, we decided you needed to see what the Uno Turbo was like in 100% stock form. Neville’s example has around 120 thousand kays on the clocks and has no mods at all. This thing is running on the stock ride height, has a stock exhaust and even the original airbox in place. It truly is something special to see. There must be very few left in this condition, which is rather sad. Get hold of Issue 88 to see more.
The Ultima GTR… The South African way!
November 24, 2008 by Krutch · Leave a Comment
Myself and Spyke kicked through to Zwartkops to see the first outing of Gert’s monster Ultima. It’s been a long time coming with lots of details you really need not know, the main thing is that the end result is pure sex on wheels thanks to Pieter Zeelie’s and Gustav’s input. From the Lambo paint and the dark wheels to the race-spec interior and insane normally aspirated V8 lump - this track toy compares to the best Ultima attemps worldwide - and I know that for a fact because I’ve been doing my homework on the subject. Keep an eye out for the car during open track days, more importantly, listen out for the car, it WILL give you better goosebumps than you get after a looooong pee you’ve been holding in for an hour. It’s not just hot but very photogenic too - just check out Spykes amazing track shots! The car can been seen in all it’s super hot glory in the pages of Issue 88 or 89, but if you really want to see what the car is all about, you have to get yourself down to King Of The Mountain - rumour is it’s going there to play with the big boys…

Issue 87

Well we’re nearing the end of the year, and you’d think there would be a bit of a slow down in the hot cars, but that’s far from the truth. It seems our local chaps are not too bothered about shops closing or even the interest rate messing around with car builds. They just carry on doing what they love to do. Take the cover car for example. This Can-Am has had more than enough blood, sweat and tears poured into it, not to mention copious amounts of money. I think all the hard work has paid off though, the car looks insane, makes mad power and is still licensed for the street. No wonder it made the cover!
