ImportParts Civic - The way all Civics should be modded!

March 31, 2009 by Krutch · 2 Comments

This car has been around ten years in the making, and somewhere along the line in those years, we featured it in an old issue. That was many moons back though, and since then, the parts list has grown and grown and eventually prompted a re-feature, and as you can see, a rightly deserved one. Andy and myself kicked out to the East Rand where Jerry’s based and we were prepared to do the shoot outside his workshop, or in Graham Susman’s workshop, but Jerry said he knew of a decent place for some hot pics. We followed him through to a weird place that sees fit to dump a few million tons of coal on their pavement, thus giving us a great backdrop to this awesome Civic. Back in the day it was supercharged, and has some subtle styling mods. As it stands now, it’s turbocharged, caged and styled to perfection, and the best bit is that it’s not running the usual Honda lump. This puppy runs with a SOHC head too - Nice! Top ride for Issue 93…

VR6 Jetta - The Cape Town way!

March 31, 2009 by Krutch · 13 Comments

My mate Brad has an interesting circle of friends, and it seems as though we’ll be showcasing their cars one at a time. Brad’s was an awesome Reader’s Build feature a few issues back with his 2.0 16v Turbo Mk1 Golf, and in the upcoming Issue 92, his mate’s VR6 Jetta is featured. I sent one of our freelance chaps, Aaron Borrill, out to do the shoot, and he was impressed with what he saw. A completely custom VR6 in quite a healthy state of tune, still normally aspirated. Luckily being at the coast means this thing is quite the demon. There are a few stories left out of the article to save some face though, like when the owner was arrested for wheelspinning at a road block… These Kaap se ouens is rof ne! We like this Jetta, a lot. It again shows that the Cape guys have a style and modding scene all their own. I love it when we get new leads in the Cape, there are never boring cars on location there…

Drift Nationals @ The Rock

March 31, 2009 by Krutch · Leave a Comment

I’ve said this a few times before, and I’m gonna keep on saying it… Drifting is the new black.  Ok, that makes absolutely NO sense at all, but by that, I mean that drifting is the new ‘in thing’.  I love it when Spyke sits at his desk and casually accounces: “Drifting Nationals this weekend hey…”  That’s my cue to wait anxiously for the event, an event full of hot cars, hot ladies and um, refreshments.  So anyhoo, I kicked on down to The Rock in Brakpan where I met Hansi, a down to earth chap with a bank balance the size of the earth.  He left Rock owner Tim drifting his matt black Lambo and his new Skyline GTR, among others.  Awesomeness!  I rocked out at The Rock, as did a few thousand others.  Check it in the mag, you know you wanna!

Import Knights dyno day @ Precision Race

March 30, 2009 by Krutch · 2 Comments

What was biilled as a small gathering for the chaps from Import Knights turned out to be slightly bigger than expected.  There were meant to be about 15 runs with some pre-confirmed cars, but it seems the Honda folk are starved for events.  The dyno was rented from 9-12, but they didn’t manage to finish all the runs in that time.  I left there after 16:00 to go through to the drift event at The Rock.  There were over 30 runs on the day by some pretty damn impressive cars, including some wicked cars from across the border.  There were loads of normally aspirated runners, some turbo lumps and even one supercharged one.  The best bit is that there were only two cars that hit the rollers not bearing the Honda badge - awesomeness!  It was a great little event and I met many Honda owners with hot cars.  The next time this underground club hooks up, I’ll try be there again.

Wicked Obsession gathering

March 30, 2009 by Krutch · 7 Comments

The GP-based car club gathered for a sound-off and a bit of a social the other day.  Seeing as the event was down the road in Sandton and that we weren’t booked up with other stuff, we decided to confirm ourt atten
dance.  I’m glad we did.  It was refreshing to see a whole bunch of new faces and their accompanying cars.  It was pretty well attended and there were even some honies walking around.  We managed to shoo the Reader’s Ride: Up Close feature there too, bonus!

We’ll be putting this in the mag under Club Culture, so grab a copy and see for yourself.

Issue 91

March 16, 2009 by amish · 4 Comments

On sale 16 March

Hot, yes, yes it is, and no, I don’t mean the weather! How freaking sexy does the magazine look this month? Ok, sure many of you might rate a Fox up there with stumping your toe on the way to the bathroom at night, but you have to give credit where it’s due. This Fox is rather tasteful and shows just what things can be done to make one unique.

Apart from an old VW and a smashing new logo, there’s some interesting stuff in the new issue like The Stig’s car. Ok, so it may not be, but have a look at the TVR 350C, then read the article and you decide! We also showcase a MONSTER Camaro, a full on drag car with great attention to detail.

Readers ride of the month: Ford Escort

March 11, 2009 by amish · 5 Comments

I don’ t think an issue will go by where there is not a Ford Escort featured between the two covers, even if it is a small bit like this for RR. They are like the bring n’ braai of the tuning scene, Z-grade meat that you can leave on the Weber for an hour or two and then wrestle off with a can of oil and a fire extinguisher. This car was purchased from another mad Ford oke who wanted to slap a big V8 in front (stereotype all you like) but he lost interest and the car was taken to new care. Read more
