We’ve again crammed a whole lot of cool into these pages and once again, there’s something for everyone. There’s the next runners after the Street Kings title, and these cars are getting nice and fast, it seems we could possibly see someone hit the 12-second bracket at the next event. Readers ride of the month: Opel Corsa

April 16, 2009 by amish · 12 Comments

With the amount of Corsa UTE’s getting laid by one accessory or another this one has definitely mated well. He even did a decent shoot on the car not like those who prop theirs next to their rose garden and shoot into the sun. Points! The car has blue under body lights, blue neon park lights and blue neon roof lights. He worked the original Corsa front bumper with fibreglass and mesh to lower it by 100mm. Read more

Corrida-WP Happy Birthday Ridha Mallick!

April 15, 2009 by Krutch · 1 Comment

Ridha Mallick is undoubtedly one of our biggest fans. His pride and joy is his 2006 Black Golf 4 GTiR named “CORRIDA”. It’s his goal is to have his car appear in Speed & Sound, but unfortunately that isn’t an immediate reality.  Ridha’s best friend Taryn Vos says: “It would mean the world if Speed & Sound could upload a picture of his car onto the website and dedicate a birthday wish to him from the Speed & Sound crew.”  Well, here it is, Have a great birthday bro, and keep on working on having your ride in our glossy pages.  From myself Krutch, and all of us here at Speed & Sound, don’t do anythying we wouldn’t do -and if you do, take pics! Monster all round 325iS vannie Kaap.

April 15, 2009 by Krutch · 19 Comments

So, who said that Cape Town doesn’t have any insanely quick street legal track cars? Our man Aaron decided he needed to set the record straight a set up a shoot on this feral beast; a car so fast and powerful that whipping a Lamborghini Murciélago becomes a simple feat.  He hooked up with Hermann Mahnke and his Mace E30 BMW 325IS Evo 2 at a container yard out in the Cape somewhere.  The weather was great on the day, and the setting suited to a monster all-round car, and industrial machine of sorts.  Hermann is just as well known in the racing fraternity as his BMW 325IS is. This car is a serious ego bruiser and a Goliath amongst street legal cars. Everyone that has challenged this particular Bimmer, have all endeared the same demise - total annihilation! How often do you get a car capable of consuming a racetrack just as easily as devouring 400m of tar in 10 seconds?  Well in this case, they go hand-in-hand.  Coming soon to an SnS near you…

The S.A way or no way at all - Dastek’s Twin Turbo Gallardo!

April 15, 2009 by Krutch · 5 Comments

That’s the cool thing about this country.  When someone wants to prove a point, they don’t just do it and move on, they make one moer of a show and make the competition wave a white flag.  Actually, that’s not quite right, there is no competition for some, like the crew from Dastek in Pretoria.  To show off just how good the Unichip brand and products are, Pieter de Weerdt decided on building something that would essentially burn an image into the retinas of any onlookers, and so he chose a Ferrari to modify and run with the Unichip.  Luckily Ferrari were typically stuck up and wouldn’t sell him a car for his needs, so he went straight to Lamborghini and hooked up a 4WD Gallardo.  The chaps at Lamborghini were so excited they practically offered Pieter floor space in their workshop!  What you see here is the result of a few months work, a masterpiece, a South African legend in the making…  If there was ever a reason to buy a copy of Speed & Sound, this is it!

Dark & Deadly S3

April 2, 2009 by Krutch · 8 Comments

Shaun Mooloo is a good friend of the magazine, although he did like us a lot more when VDub was still running.  You see, he’s what we call a VAG-Slut.  A VAG-Slut is someone who stiffens up when the subject is Volkswagen or Audi seeing as they’re pretty much one in the same.  After a well-known exhaust shop killed his Mk5 GTi, he changed to the S3 and has been smiling ever since.  He now has his version of the hottest hatch available, and we agree.  Wally packed up all the lighting equipment and Andy into his Mk4 TDi (he’s old now, forgive him!) and headed on out to The Z to shoot the S3.   As you can see, they did a pukka job, something you  can only get right when you actually identify with the car you’re shooting.  You wanna see more of the S3 and see if it has the bite to match the bark… You know what to do!
