Insane Hummer - Just how we like ‘em!
March 29, 2010 by Krutch · 2 Comments

Ok, so we don’t get snow here, but that wouldn’t stop me from getting my hands on one of these sick puppies! This monster Hummer H2 is called the Bomber and it’s been created by the folk at GeigerCars. The mad tuners replaced the normal 20×8.5 wheels with a set of something called Mattracks 88M1-A1 rubber tracks. The rubber tracks attached are 40cm wide and 150cm long and the car is propelled by a 398hp V8 engine. That means there’s loads of torque powering these tracks so this Hummer can pull itself over just about any obstacle. I want a black one!
Cape’s styling Mini = HOT!

We put Riyaad in touch with Faizel so he could shoot his Mini. We got the heads up on this car a while back and now that it’s all finished, it was time to shoot it. The guys took the car to a great location in some great lighting and proceeded to make it pose for some power shots. Just take a look at these sneak peak pics and wet your appetite. Remember, if you wanna see more of this ride and what Riyaad got up to grab the next copy of SnS. You know you wanna.

BMW Club’s Kyalami Track Attack
March 24, 2010 by Krutch · Leave a Comment

I headed through nice and early for a Saturday, around 09:00 and found that Antony had been there since the crack of dawn! Madness, but then I guess that’s the reason his 540i sports a BMW Fanatics sticker. The first big track event of the year was hosted by none other than the BMW Car Club of Gauteng, and yeah, it was a cracker. Some wicked times were acheived through all classes, the results will be in the next mag along with Antony’s pics.

Hepburn - Racing Royalty
March 19, 2010 by Krutch · Leave a Comment

Willie Hepburn made his debut in motorsport at Kyalami 45 years ago. From ovals to drag strips to circuits all over SA, Willie has etched a great name for himself. His cars are just as famous, he successfully raced a Mazda RX7 production car, a Ford XR8 known as The Animal, Chev Rekords, a Chev Camaro and a Ford Mustang. He held the SA Land Speed Record from 1990 until 2002 driving a street legal 7.0 Pontiac Turbo at an average speed of 372.401Km/h. Willie’s also racked up loads of awards and trophies for his efforts.
He just dropped by the offices so Spyke and Andy could interview him about, well, being him. Ok, so Andy just sat in and watched. He’s a great guy, it’s hard to believe he’s the petrol head that he is. You know the drill, for more, get hold of the upcoming issue.

Rolling LMC ‘Cuda nails Enzo!

I was sent a link to the vid, and then followed more links from there until I got the whole story. This thing is simply insane! We often see muscle cars getting rebuilt and the most common thing I hear about them is that yeah, they make power but you still have to cruise coz an old V8 won’t handle. Even with a new trick suspension system fitted you never see them playing on the track. I drool when I watch Overhaulin’ and see Foose and the crew building the hottest cars ever. Some get serious engines too, and I always wonder how they’ll be to drive. Well the chaps at Legendary Motorcar Company answered my question. Ok, so it’s not quite a V8, there’s two extra cylinders under the hood with a healthy addition of boost, but it was still a ground-up rebuild. A rebuild with speed AND handling in mind.
This was on their site: “The culmination of almost two years of hard work by the team at Legendary Motorcar, the Cuda’ is the successful realization of a seemingly impossible goal. Can Legendary Motorcar build a resto-mod muscle car that will rival the world’s most exotic super cars? The television show Dream Car Garage, which can be seen each Saturday on SUN TV, has followed the construction of the Super Cuda’ from a rusted shell to show car and track star. This week’s show is the season finale, featuring the exciting shootout between the twin-turbo V10 powered Super Cuda’ and an Enzo Ferrari. Peter Klutt, President of Legendary Motorcar, and Chip Foose debuted the Super Cuda’ at the SEMA convention in Las Vegas . The car was an instant hit but it had yet to achieve its most important goal, to match the performance of an Enzo Ferrari and to goover 200mph. It all came together on Tuesday December 1st. The Super Cuda was cleared to run on the track. Grey skies and the threat of snow gave way to sun. As the track warmed, speeds increased and the Super Cuda’ punched a hole in the air topping 208mph with still more power to spare.”
The best thing you’ll hear in the vid? When Peter says “above 200 the Cuda’ was running out of aero… and I was running out of cohones”.
Here’s a few build pics, you can check out the rest of the pics here.
HRC invades the sweepies for lunch

My mate Anthony invited me on a breakfast run with the HRC chaps, although it was actually a lunch run, but the phrase lunch run doesn’t sound as cool. We met a bunch of Hondas at East Rand Mall MacD’s, then headed through to the basement parking at Northgate where we hooked up with loads more Honda lovers. From there we kicked it through to a spot called Auto Cradle, a cool reastaurant in the middle of nowhere, but it has the best windy (no, not fast moving air, long sweeps in the roads) route to get there, well if you go the long way. It was a brilliant day, great people, awesome cars all revving to 9-grand and I got to ride shotgun in an S2000 with the top down!

‘Rocco in Jet Park
March 19, 2010 by Krutch · Leave a Comment

Wally hooked up a shoot on this old ‘Rocco a while back but was always waiting for the car to be finished. It’s pretty sweet as you can see, rather pleasing to the eyeballs. It’s had a few visual mods and being dropped on Cups makes it even cooler. Inside there’s a functional interior with a half cage and under the hood there’s a bit of a tweaked 8-valve lump. The car was destined for much bigger things but the project was put on hold as it was just sold to a new owner. Pity, but you must admit, it looks good on pic. Wally had fun on this shoot, he likes his VWs.

Monster Mini Madness!
March 18, 2010 by Krutch · 2 Comments

Yeah, as if that Toyota-powered Smart wasn’t insane enough, we found a feature buddy for the car. This one’s sporting the same base lump, a 16-valve 4A-GE from Toyota and it’s been treated to boost too. This nutter’s managed to shoehorn it into a Mini. Yes, we’ve seen 16v turbo motors shoved into these before, but this looks like there’s just so much more happening. Wally and Andy went out to meet Christi on the way into the bushveld. Apparently it’s a bit of a handful to pilot. No really, just a bit though.

Rocky’s Hygrade tweaked Hummer
March 18, 2010 by Krutch · Leave a Comment

Wally and Neeresh met up with Rocky to shoot his Hummer. No, not literally of couse, although a Canon was involved. Hummers are becoming more and more popular on our roads and that means the game is on, owners are trying to find new ways to make them special. Rocky’s Hummer has the usual bling accessories and the obligatory super large chome wheels, but thanks to Hygrade it’s full of banging ICE now too. At the shoot Wally got a bit of a surprise when a friend of Rocky’s was all of a sudden wearing clothing better suited to the bedroom. While trying to impersonate a tripod Wally shot off a few rounds… with the SLR - for the results check out the next issue.

FRC Tuning - Wicked SEAT and a chat
March 18, 2010 by Krutch · 3 Comments

We hooked up with Preggie and Praga from Frieling Racing chip tuning for a chat about their SEAT and a little bit about the FRC brand. The chaps have been tuning VAG cars for a while now and have quite a following. No online software wars are complete without FRC fans getting in their say about the brand and how much they love it. Wally headed out to their new workshop and snapped some pics while finding out where FRC is from and what exactly makes them tick.
