Readers ride of the month: Ford Escort

escortRaymond’s Escort is older than most of our readers yet its shape and style is still instantly recognisable simply because there are still so many of them around, a fair part of them modified too. This is the case here although it still has a strong passion for street despite the inside looking like it belongs to a stunt driver. Read more

Issue 106 – The Spyke Issue

While we all know I’m drifting crazy, some of you will be pleased to know that this installment of your favourite tuner magazine is not filled with only sideways cars. I’ve kept it real, Louis Gossett Jr said I must. You can look forward to some great drag racing action in an exciting new format – both on the track and in the glossy pages of this issue. This includes action from Sport Compact as well as Round 2 of the Nationals Championship. There’s more event action from the Twincam Dyno day and the Japan Auto Show. AutoZone Sport Compact Round II

scs-main

Round two of the Autozone Sport Compact Drag Racing Series promised to be a pretty damn sweet event, and I’m happy to report that it was just that, a sweet event. A contributing factor was the World Wide Web, in particular the Speed & Sound Magazine forums. It was here that many challenges were made, and if they weren’t, the snide remarks between users were enough fuel to make the competitors perform at a pace better than their best. There was friendly rivalry between all the usual suspects, but the main focal point was in the normally aspirated class, the front-wheel drives in particular. This hotly contested class is seeing new cars enter at just about every event. It’s also not like a few years ago when someone entered after slapping throttles on an 8-valve Golf, these entries are all purpose-built race monsters. Ok, sure some can be driven on the street, but most of them can’t because they’re made for straight-line speed. So out of the online challenges between the guys from all over SA, who pitched up and who chickened out? Get hold of Issue 106 to find out and let us know what you think of the awesome layout Batty put together for you.
