The buzz is about as one of the most anticipated dyno days fast approaches us. It’s been punted for a good while now and finally the day dawns. It’s time for the Dastek Dyno Day.

For those that don’t know, the day will take place on the 31st of July at Dastek’s premises in Pretoria, on the corner of Hans Strydom and Veldpou street in Monument Park. The proceedings will start at 7am and run until well in the afternoon. Prizes are up for grabs courtesy of www.streetracer.co.za and it’ll cost you R100 to enter on the day. Entry is by pre-entry only so log onto www.streetracer.co.za to book yourself a spot on the day.

Heinrich from Sunoco fuels will also be in attendance with Sunoco giveaways and some great promo cars and girls. Look out for the Speed and Sound Drift team there too! Apart from Speed and Sound coverage, Ignition TV will be on hand, filming and taking notes. Make sure you don’t miss out on this one – it’s going to be a killer event.

Readers ride of the month: Toyota Tazz

July 20, 2010 by amish · 10 Comments

tazz-afterShaun has done so much work to his car that he actually supplied the details in point form but when it comes to his car he proves that he’s quite capable of stringing it all together. This Tazz blends together very well and it must be told that all the parts were fitted by himself with help from his nephews. The guys made a few trips to a place called National Garage in Petermaritzburg where most of the accessories including the body kit were purchased. Read more

Issue 107  - Andy’s issue

The only thing issue 107 has in common with the other 106 mags before it is that there are still two sections; one for speed freaks and the other for sound guys – I Said Sound Guys! It’s fairly nuts to change a formula that has seen SnS become the best performance magazine in SA for as long as anyone cares to remember but I decided to give it a new injection of fizz with some strong informative sections while not neglecting the best custom cars the country has on offer. Our cover car epitomises the sense of extremity with the most acrobatic of body panels and vivid colours. If you like to see the purest fabrication possible don’t miss this radical feature. Wheel time again

July 14, 2010 by spyke · Leave a Comment

w11Sadly, the ALine GTs that were fitted not too long ago decided that they had had enough of our potholed road who also constantly morph thanks to SANRAL and their seemingly directionless and careless road works.

Three of my wheels bore the brunt of step-ups, potholes and failed road joints and this resulted in me getting a call from Willards with an offer to buy my wheels – something about them wanting to design a new crinkle-cut chip based on my rimmage. That was the final straw – it was time for new hoops and new rubber. There are a few tyres out there that I wouldn’t even dare fit to my mother-in-law’s car and now I can add BCT* to the list. These felt more like ice skates than tyres and I feared having to drive anywhere in the wet. That said, not once did I lose any tyre pressure after bending the lip 90deg to the face of the wheel – very odd.

Fortunately, I managed to time this to near perfection and secured myself a set of OZ Ultraleggera wheels and a set of Falken’s new ZEIX ZE522 tyres. To top it off, Pride Performance graciously sponsored a set of TPi tuner nuts in anodized blue to finish the look.

The compliments have started rolling in, but I still miss the GTs.
