Supadrift Feb 2011!

The Supadrift event took place at the Zwartkops International Raceway this past Saturday the 19th of February 2011. All the usual suspects were there to partake in a lot of slipping, sliding and controlled sideways action. Competitors came from all over the country as well as Mozambique to pit their skills against one another in what can be described as a well planned, carried out and hopefully what will grow to be a well attended event.

Our head honcho, the man we lovingly refer to as Batty Boy (no, not because he swing that way, more thanks to being besotted by the winged, caped crusader) has some pretty damn peculiar mates. One such chap is Gareth, a very scary chap who looks like he’ll eat you alive and pick his teeth with your bone, all while you’re still alive to watch. He emigrated to Australia a while back so that he could pick on the locals and throw sheep at them. He hooked himself up some cool wheels and sent us a few pics. Read more

The next round of the almighty Supadrift series takes place at the Swartkops International Raceway on Saturday the 19th of February. This promises to be an awesome event and definitely shouldn’t be missed.
Gates open at 9am and the event closes at 6pm.
entrance is R80-00 for adults and R40-00 for kids.

Issue 114 packs a punch with some serious drag muscle in the form of a fully reworked Dodge Challenger that we shot with the crazy CMax Roller Derby Girls. There’s also some Cape flavour that also houses a mighty V8, only this time in a diminutive Ford Escort body.

Wait… WTF?

A little birdie dropped me a mail the other day. In it was a link for a YouTube video, one that I’ve included below…
Recognize the race track? Recognize the cars? You should.
Yes, it’s Tarlton International Raceway and that is JET1 and JET2 piloted by none other than Nico van Rensburg and Pieter de Wit.
The French advertising company enlisted the help of Tarlton’s Jets and track to shoot this TV commercial for McDonalds in France, advertising their new McFarmer burger.
The commercial was shot over two days using South African extras and props. The McDonalds that you see in the final shots is actually a facade and was shot in the pits at Tarlton. The Mickey D’s is actually the fuel store. (Take a look at the Audi parked alongside it – it’s on GP plates)
Besides the fact that the jets can’t spin their tyres and they don’t have rev counters (Rev counter on a Westinghouse jet engine? WTF?), we think the ad is well done and is quite funny too. Nice to see our local guys being shown overseas, even if it is for a burger commercial.

The BMW Club of South Africa recently held a dyno day at the RGM headquarters in Randburg. Needless to say the day was run with military precision and a high calibre of cars pitched to go one on one on the rollers.
