Issue 124 – Old School Cool

On Sale: 19 December

It’s time to kick back and relive the years gone by with the Old School Edition. We take a look at a few cars, older than many of our readers that can still mix it up with the best that the new millennium has to offer.

We look at a SA favourite, the Skyline GTX. This one has a little more bite though, thanks to it’s turbocharged L28 motor. This mean green machine is definitely the quickest GTX in SA. Read more

Issue 123 – It’s all about Stance

November 21, 2011 by · 2 Comments

Issue 123 – On sale 21 November.

This issue has a strange spread of cars from a purpose built Hyundai drag car (that’s what I said!) through to a properly modified Ford Focus RS from the 888 Performance stable with over 400 killerwhales on the front slicks. Well, make that 322 of them if you turn the nitrous off. For most people, that’s a dream hatchback, to this man in Durban, it’s a weekend toy among a collection of potent cars.

Heading to the other coastline we have a pair of Hondas that are part of the Cape Stance movement and when we tell you that these cars are hot, it’s not an exaggeration, there’s some wicked JDM (real JDM!) styling going on too, but the way these things hug the road is what makes them special, stance all the way baby!  Issue 122: On Sale 24 October

It’s all systems GO! with this month’s Gamer themed issue of Speed and Sound. Somewhere along the line, we’ve all had a go at either a first person shooter, fantasy RPG and more likely, a racing simulator. We pay homage to the video game with the November issue and bring you the hottest content at the same time.

Powerful feature cars are also the order of the day and we take a first look at boss lady, Annie Silva’s VW MkI drag car, Muffin Krusha as she locks and loads for another mission. The BP Ultimate Ride 2 VW Golf also makes a first appearance this month. We recently handed over the keys to the lucky winner of this giveaway car. Read more

Issue 121 – A Tribute. On Sale 19 September

Issue 121 storms in and brings with it hot weather and even hotter cars. With the weather warming up in our dear old country, it’s time to get the cars ready for those breakfast runs and meet-ups. It’s also a reminder that the year is drawing to a rapid close and the silly season is nigh.

Last month we showed the bugs a little love and this month it’s the turn of the E30 BMW. We kick things off with our cover car – the worlds fastest BMW powered E30 that was built right here on our doorstep.

We go back in time and look at two immaculate examples in the form of a mint E30 M3 and a Warsteiner Race replica. We also snoop around the fastest NA E30 in SA and revisit an old turbo friend. The BM guys show off their wares at the BMW Concourse event and we chat to Cape BMW fundi, Achmat Achmat. Read more

Issue 119 – The Gangster Issue

Speed and Sound Issue 119

Issue 119 – on sale 19 July

Welcome to the gangster edition!  Yeah, this is another themed issue, all about gangs and gangsters.  We liked the idea, which is why we did it, and also, luckily for us, the gangster theme can be spread pretty wide.  Gangsters over the ages have always made use of some proper rides, this wasn’t a way to show off their ill-gotten money, it was to show the competition who the top dog is, and also, that if you do it right, crime pays.  The more successful the gangster, the better his ride, just like most businessmen but gangster have better taste.  Well usually. Issue 118

Issue 118 – on sale 20 June.

On the back of celebrating ten years of high octane modifying, we return to the tried and trusted and punch out an issue packed with power. The speed side of things sees our cover car, Quinten’s already notorious Honda Civic EH, make its national debut. This N/A Screamer has already set the cat amongst the pigeons in the NA FWD class and is set to make big waves.

Speaking of notorious rides, the MACE BMW 325iS Evo2 shows us why hypercars are no match for this locally bred beast. Old school rules with Danie’s blown arch MkII Ford Escort packing a powerful punch thanks to its 2JZ-GTE motor. We compare two sibling BMWs with entirely different agendas with the Afrox Team and their pair of 335is as we shoot them on track.

We profile RACE! and bring you action from the BMW Club Track day the Saldanha Top End runs while Neeresh brings you the long awaited action from the Rand Show event.

In the sound side, the Gangsta celebrate a new addition to the family, his new son, Kiyash. He also brings you the two-time Bass Boxing champion and his DD Opel Corsa. Big Boss Auto reveals a VW Scirocco with a banging Y2K Rockford system, and a super neat BMW 325iS with a pounding Audio Panache setup.

All this action, and more, in the July issue of Speed and Sound Magazine, on sale 20 June.

front-cover-116-webOn Sale: 18 April

Welcome to the dark side… of Issue 116.

This month we delve into the dark, murky depths of Johannesburg and Cape Town to bring you the most sinister rides around. With each and every feature car darker than the night itself, the Black Edition is something special.

We dig out a blood thirsty Subaru GT from the Cape and shine a light in its face to extract the truth. While in the Cape, we hunted down a somber Civic kitted out with all the right groceries.
