Talha

Owning a workshop and racing yourself, does it get any better? Talha (Tolla) has the recipe just right, and his 2.0 8v Escort is a strong runner thanks to the addition of a turbo and some medical grade laughing gas. Being in the game for nigh on ten years means he has the skills to pilot his car properly, and it shows in his 10.7-second best E.T.

What do you do when you’ve won a few go-karting championships and proven yourself in circuit racing? That’s right, you step it up a notch to drag racing with the big boys! Luc’s built himself a monster that’s hit the ten-second bracket already. His fastest time across the traps is 10.7 sec. The chaps call him the Italian Stallion, not sure about the ladies though…

As it stands, the man known to his friends as ‘Snatcher’ has the fastest true Uno Turbo in the land. This man has obliterated the traps in a whopping 11.8-seconds; something that makes him feared by bigger engined turbo cars. You’ll line up with him, the lights will go green and you’ll try your best to win, but he’ll snatch the lead and leave you for dead. Uno owners everywhere revere Ishmael.

Ghateem a.k.a Gatoe is the brains behind the yellow Escort. The man not only kicks ass in his workshop, he does so on the strip in the N/A classes. Gatle’s taken his 2.0 8v ride to the traps in 13.9-seconds. He will be switching to 16v superboss power soon. He’ll whip your ass in a serious manner, and then be your best friend afterwards.

The monster of an N/A car is aimed down the strip by Elton Scullard, and since it’s resurrection after a bit of a roll, it’s come back to cement it’s place among SA’s fastest N/A cars. His fastest time to date is a 11.4 sec. Elton’s a friendly chap, off the track. Line up next to him and you’re public enemy No.1 and in the line of fire.

The Allie Bros seems to be the ones to talk to when you want info on the Cape scene. Sirajjuddien is the younger chap and owner of the 1660 8v Ford lovingly known as Patches. Older boet Ash is the pilot because Sirajjuddien isn’t allowed to race at Killarney (long story!) and has taken the car to the traps in 14.00 seconds. The Allie Bros are quite the competitive team on and off the track.

This is the man you don’t wanna line up against. Together with Satish, he’s the most consistent chap out there, and his monster TS will probably dish out one times serious hiding on you. Ok, not probably, it will. Theo was the first one on the team back in the day, and he’ll be here forever. And if you don’t beat him on the strip, he’s big enough to take you out physically, pity he’s a big friendly softy though! Beware the Hitman, you’re in his sights!

The brothers are the team members afraid of boost. Well their M3 has it, but their drag car, the wicked old model Honda Civic is boostless, and that’s just fine. The methanol drinking, high revving monster can nail quite a few turbo cars to the wall, and one day when we see the car again, it should be faster again. Look out for these men and their cars, or should I say, listen out for them!

Charel Van Biljon

Speed and Sound’s very own Purple Turtle did us proud at the Slide Masters event, and while driver Charel Van Biljon may not have finished on the podium, he left a lasting impression on all who attended. He fought tooth and nail for third spot up against David Nell in one of the most memorable battles ever seen. After a spin from both David and Charel left them with 10 points a piece, the crowd chanted ‘One more time!’. The third run left them with five points each and meant that they’d do yet another run, much to the crowds delight. A forced error saw Charel spin and hand over third spot to David but the run will be
remembered for a very long time. Well done Charel!

Bruno Miranda worked wonders at the recent Slide Masters: South African Drift Challenge held at The Rock. He took his RB25 powered Nissan 200SX through four rounds of eliminations and was pipped against the expert hand of Florin in the Firenza Nissan Skyline for the final. The crowed was in awe of his drifting skill and prowess, effortless slides with pin point precision.
The final bout was an adrenaline charged tussle between the two drifters but Florin managed to keep his composure and force Bruno into making an uncharacteristic mistake. Well done to Bruno and his crew
on their performance on the day.
